Important Announcements
Send announcements to RichardJohnson@MissouriState.edu

  • south end of frisco trail to be paved? Greg Hipp, cross country coach at MSU, writes: "OMRR members might be interested in knowing that we're about to lose the Frisco Trail as a soft surface trail.  It might be paved and turned into just another sidewalk in the woods (that's what I think of paved 'trails').  I'd encourage any OMRR members to voice their concerns to Ozark Greenways and the OTO staff and board of directors." You can read an article about this and also visit www.OzarkGreenways.org to read more and voice your opinion.

  • event cancelled: The KHS Cross Country Community Challenge 5K (11/21/09) has been cancelled.

  • boston marathon full: The 2010 Boston Marathon is now closed. Visit www.baa.org for more information.

  • pr corner:  Here are some recent PRs (personal records) set by Ozarks area runners. These are listed in two categories: (1) actual-time PRs and (2) WAVA PRs (compare your recent times to your old PRs using the WAVA calculator to see if you have a WAVA PR--read more about WAVA). If you achieve a PR (actual or WAVA), email RichardJohnson@MissouriState.edu ASAP with the information you see below. Each month, we will have a drawing for one $25 gift certificate for every ten PR performances for that month (we are glad to list any Ozarks runner's PR, but you must be a current OMRR member to win the gift certificate). Note that the first time you run a race of a given distance, that is also a PR. Let us know about it! Great job, people!

We had 37 PRs set in October, so OMRR is giving three $25 gift certificates at random to OMRR members. The $25 gift certificate winner(s) (for Ridge Runner Sports, The Starting Block, Quiznos Subs, Panera Bread, or Help Me Swim/Bike/Run) for a PR during October are Kayleigh Amstutz, Pam Sailors, and Chad Lakin!  Please contact Richard Johnson and make your choice known (and include your current mailing address).

  • from omrr president chris revoir: We need volunteers to help with the Turkey Trot!!!

    • We will need a few people to help on Thursday the 19th of November with packet stuffing. This basically amounts to putting info into bags to be handed out at packet pickup. We start around 9:00am and should be done by early afternoon. The park board supplies a pizza lunch and Turkey Trot shirts to all volunteers.

    • Wednesday the 25th of November is the packet pickup day at the Medicom Ice Park on Trafficway and Kimbrough. We need some volunteers for helping with packet pickup. Hopefully for a couple a hours. Packet pickup will start at 8:00am and run to 6:00pm. It would be nice if we could find some people to help hand out packets.  All volunteers will receive a Turkey Trot shirt for their help.

    • And of course on the morning of the race, Thursday the 26th of November we will need help at the preregistration tables, help handing out shirts and handing out race packets. The race starts at 8:00am so the volunteers will need to be their around 6:45 to 7:00am.  Again they will receive Turkey Trot shirts. Everyone who helps can still run the race.

I will need to know the shirt sizes of all the volunteers and an idea of when they may be available so I can try to fill all the spots. Thanks for your help. Contact Chris at buildr1887@aol.com ASAP!

  • take some pics, write a story! The deadline for the Dec. 1 OMRR newsletter is Nov. 18. You could win a $25 gift card for the best picture or the best article. Get out there and take some running pics (preferably action shots, but anything is fine). Write one or two pages about an interesting race you were in, a new PR, your aches and pains, whatever! Include a pic or two with your article. Send all submissions to Richard Johnson.

  • listen up runners! OMRR gives away about $1000 a year in gift certificates to our members (for Triple Crown, PR Corner, ROTY, OMRR banquet, or just for being a member), BUT you have to claim your prize by paying attention to this web site or by signing up for our e-Newsletter. Contact Richard Johnson if you would like to be on our e-Newsletter email list (your email address will NOT be shared with anyone else). (You can be on our email list whether you are a member or not.)

  • september omrr member of the month: The OMRR member of the month for September is Jamie Rigdon. Jamie is a new OMRR member from Mountain Home, AR. She had two PRs in September, one in a 5K and one in a half marathon. Jamie will receive a plaque, a t-shirt, and a write-up in the Running Briefs newsletter. Congratulations, Jamie! If you want to nominate an OMRR member for October, contact Pete Pyeatt, ppyeatt@aol.com.

  • got photos? Here's a new little application for OMRR members only. Email one of your favorite running photos to Richard Johnson. For example, did you know that Richard Johnson is the OMRR webmaster and newsletter editor? Email your pic to me RIGHT NOW!!!
